Short answer
What is Glutathione?
Glutathione is a tripeptide (gamma-glutamyl-cysteinyl-glycine) made in most cells, where it acts as an antioxidant.
It also appears in the literature as L-glutathione, GSH, gamma-L-Glu-L-Cys-Gly, reduced glutathione.

What has research on Glutathione examined?
Glutathione is an endogenous tripeptide present in most cells, and reviews describe its biosynthesis and antioxidant roles. Randomised controlled trials in humans have examined oral glutathione supplementation and body glutathione stores, with mixed results.
The table lists primary sources by year and model. Findings describe the study subjects, not this research vial.
| STUDY | YEAR | MODEL | PMID |
|---|---|---|---|
| Glutathione: overview of its protective roles, measurement, and biosynthesis | 2009 | review | 18796312 |
| Randomized controlled trial of oral glutathione supplementation on body stores of glutathione | 2015 | human | 24791752 |
| Effects of oral glutathione supplementation on systemic oxidative stress biomarkers in human volunteers | 2011 | human | 21875351 |
What adverse events have studies of Glutathione reported?
A review reports that most trials found no or minimal adverse effects, but only over a few IV doses or 4-12 weeks, with no long-term IV data (PMID 27499402). A 12-week oral trial in healthy women reported no serious adverse effects (PMID 28490897). With inhaled use, cough, unpleasant odour and, in sulfite-sensitive asthmatics, bronchoconstriction are reported (PMID 18317545).
These findings describe the people or animals in each study. The sources list gives every PubMed record.
How do you reconstitute and store Glutathione?
Store the sealed vial frozen (about -20 degrees Celsius), dry and away from light until it is reconstituted.
After reconstitution with a sterile solvent, keep the solution at 2 to 8 degrees Celsius and avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Record the solvent, volume and date on the vial label.
BAC Water is the usual laboratory solvent. Dilute acetic acid is an alternative for peptides that dissolve poorly in water. The reconstitution guide and storage guide cover laboratory handling.
| STATE | TEMPERATURE | NOTES |
|---|---|---|
| Sealed vial | -20 °C | Dry and dark. Keeps to the label date. |
| Reconstituted | 2 to 8 °C | Sterile technique. Avoid repeat freeze and thaw. |
| In transit | Cold pack | Refrigerate or freeze on arrival. |
Is Glutathione legal to buy in Australia?
Glutathione for parenteral use is listed in Schedule 4 of the Poisons Standard (prescription only). Source: the June 2026 Poisons Standard instrument (F2026L00633).
Glutathione is not named on WADA's 2026 Prohibited List. WADA method M2.2 separately prohibits intravenous infusions or injections of more than 100 mL in 12 hours outside hospital settings.

Is glutathione a peptide?
Yes. Glutathione is a peptide of 3 amino acids.
Is glutathione a prescription medicine in Australia?
Glutathione for parenteral use is listed in Schedule 4 of the Poisons Standard (prescription only). Peptides Collective sells it for laboratory research use only.
Is glutathione banned in sport?
Glutathione is not named on WADA's 2026 Prohibited List. WADA method M2.2 separately prohibits intravenous infusions or injections of more than 100 mL in 12 hours outside hospital settings.
What is the CAS number for glutathione?
The CAS number for Glutathione is 70-18-8. Its PubChem CID is 124886.
How long does an unopened glutathione vial keep?
A sealed vial of lyophilised powder keeps to the date on its label when stored frozen, dry and dark. Once reconstituted, keep the solution at 2 to 8 degrees Celsius and record the date on the label.
Does every glutathione batch have a certificate?
Yes. Every Glutathione batch is tested by [lab] before it goes on sale, and the certificate is published under the batch number printed on the vial. The current batch certificate is [pending].
Where is glutathione shipped from?
Orders ship tracked from Western Australia. Orders placed before [cut-off] leave the same business day. Delivery estimates by state are on the shipping page.
What purity is the current glutathione batch?
The current Glutathione batch certificate is [pending]. When it is published, it reports purity by HPLC to three decimal places and confirms identity by mass spectrometry.
Which solvent reconstitutes glutathione?
BAC Water (sterile water with 0.9% benzyl alcohol) is the usual laboratory solvent. Dilute acetic acid is an alternative for peptides that dissolve poorly in water. Record the solvent, volume and resulting concentration on the vial label.
How much does glutathione cost in Australia?
Glutathione costs A$118 for 1500mg at Peptides Collective, in Australian dollars. Each price is per vial of lyophilised powder.
