Short answer

Oxytocin is an endogenous nonapeptide hormone of the posterior pituitary (cyclic, Cys1-Cys6 disulfide, C-terminal amide), sold here as a 10mg lyophilised vial from A$78 for laboratory research. Every batch is tested by [lab] before sale, and its certificate is linked below.

What is Oxytocin?

Oxytocin is a 9-amino-acid hormone of the posterior pituitary. It is cyclic, closed by a disulfide bond between residues 1 and 6, with an amidated C-terminus.

It also appears in the literature as ocytocin.

What has research on Oxytocin examined?

Oxytocin is an approved medicine used in obstetrics, and Cochrane reviews have assessed its use in the third stage of labour. Intranasal oxytocin has been studied in many randomised trials in psychiatric and behavioural settings, summarised in meta-analyses with mixed results.

The table lists primary sources by year and model. Findings describe the study subjects, not this research vial.

What adverse events have studies of Oxytocin reported?

A review of 38 randomised trials of intranasal oxytocin (1,529 participants) found side effects did not differ from placebo; three case reports involved misuse or longer-term use (PMID 21429671). In a 12-week trial in 100 adults with alcohol use disorder, adverse events were mild and comparable to placebo, and hyposmia was the most common event in both groups (PMID 42458234).

These findings describe the people or animals in each study. The sources list gives every PubMed record.

How do you reconstitute and store Oxytocin?

Store the sealed vial frozen (about -20 degrees Celsius), dry and away from light until it is reconstituted.

After reconstitution with a sterile solvent, keep the solution at 2 to 8 degrees Celsius and avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Record the solvent, volume and date on the vial label.

BAC Water is the usual laboratory solvent. Dilute acetic acid is an alternative for peptides that dissolve poorly in water. The reconstitution guide and storage guide cover laboratory handling.

Oxytocin questions

What has research on oxytocin examined?

Oxytocin is an approved medicine used in obstetrics, and Cochrane reviews have assessed its use in the third stage of labour. Intranasal oxytocin has been studied in many randomised trials in psychiatric and behavioural settings, summarised in meta-analyses with mixed results.

Is oxytocin a peptide?

Yes. Oxytocin is a peptide of 9 amino acids.

Is oxytocin a prescription medicine in Australia?

Oxytocin is listed in Schedule 4 of the Poisons Standard (prescription only). Peptides Collective sells it for laboratory research use only.

Is oxytocin banned in sport?

Oxytocin is not named on WADA's 2026 Prohibited List.

What is the CAS number for oxytocin?

The CAS number for Oxytocin is 50-56-6. Its PubChem CID is 439302.

How long does an unopened oxytocin vial keep?

A sealed vial of lyophilised powder keeps to the date on its label when stored frozen, dry and dark. Once reconstituted, keep the solution at 2 to 8 degrees Celsius and record the date on the label.

Does every oxytocin batch have a certificate?

Yes. Every Oxytocin batch is tested by [lab] before it goes on sale, and the certificate is published under the batch number printed on the vial. The current batch certificate is [pending].

Where is oxytocin shipped from?

Orders ship tracked from Western Australia. Orders placed before [cut-off] leave the same business day. Delivery estimates by state are on the shipping page.

What purity is the current oxytocin batch?

The current Oxytocin batch certificate is [pending]. When it is published, it reports purity by HPLC to three decimal places and confirms identity by mass spectrometry.

Which solvent reconstitutes oxytocin?

BAC Water (sterile water with 0.9% benzyl alcohol) is the usual laboratory solvent. Dilute acetic acid is an alternative for peptides that dissolve poorly in water. Record the solvent, volume and resulting concentration on the vial label.

How much does oxytocin cost in Australia?

Oxytocin costs A$78 for 10mg at Peptides Collective, in Australian dollars. Each price is per vial of lyophilised powder.
