Short answer

MOTS-c is a 16-amino-acid mitochondrial-derived peptide encoded within the mitochondrial 12S rRNA gene, sold here as a 10mg lyophilised vial from A$78 for laboratory research. Every batch is tested by [lab] before sale, and its certificate is linked below.

What is MOTS-c?

MOTS-c is a 16-amino-acid peptide encoded within the mitochondrial 12S rRNA gene, which makes it a mitochondrial-derived peptide.

It also appears in the literature as Mitochondrial open reading frame of the 12S rRNA-c, Mitochondria-derived peptide MOTS-c.

What has research on MOTS-c examined?

MOTS-c has been examined mainly in cell and mouse models of metabolism, ageing and injury, beginning with a 2015 Cell Metabolism report. Human studies found on PubMed measure circulating endogenous MOTS-c (e.g. around exercise); no controlled trials giving MOTS-c to people were identified.

The table lists primary sources by year and model. Findings describe the study subjects, not this research vial.

What adverse events have studies of MOTS-c reported?

No study reporting adverse events from MOTS-c administration was found. Human studies in PubMed measure natural blood levels of MOTS-c (for example after exercise). Studies that give MOTS-c are in rodents and cells, and their abstracts do not report adverse events.

These findings describe the people or animals in each study. The sources list gives every PubMed record.

How do you reconstitute and store MOTS-c?

Store the sealed vial frozen (about -20 degrees Celsius), dry and away from light until it is reconstituted.

After reconstitution with a sterile solvent, keep the solution at 2 to 8 degrees Celsius and avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Record the solvent, volume and date on the vial label.

BAC Water is the usual laboratory solvent. Dilute acetic acid is an alternative for peptides that dissolve poorly in water. The reconstitution guide and storage guide cover laboratory handling.

MOTS-c questions

What has research on MOTS-c examined?

MOTS-c has been examined mainly in cell and mouse models of metabolism, ageing and injury, beginning with a 2015 Cell Metabolism report. Human studies found on PubMed measure circulating endogenous MOTS-c (e.g. around exercise); no controlled trials giving MOTS-c to people were identified.

Is MOTS-c available in Australia?

Yes. Peptides Collective sells MOTS-c in Australia for laboratory research use only, at A$78 for 10mg, with a certificate for every batch. MOTS-c is not named in the Poisons Standard (June 2026 instrument).

Is MOTS-c a peptide?

Yes. MOTS-c is a peptide of 16 amino acids.

Is MOTS-c a prescription medicine in Australia?

MOTS-c is not named in the Poisons Standard (June 2026 instrument). Peptides Collective sells it for laboratory research use only.

Is MOTS-c banned in sport?

WADA's 2026 Prohibited List prohibits MOTS-c at all times, under class S4.4.1.

What is the CAS number for MOTS-c?

The CAS number for MOTS-c is 1627580-64-6. Its PubChem CID is 146675088.

How long does an unopened MOTS-c vial keep?

A sealed vial of lyophilised powder keeps to the date on its label when stored frozen, dry and dark. Once reconstituted, keep the solution at 2 to 8 degrees Celsius and record the date on the label.

Does every MOTS-c batch have a certificate?

Yes. Every MOTS-c batch is tested by [lab] before it goes on sale, and the certificate is published under the batch number printed on the vial. The current batch certificate is [pending].

Where is MOTS-c shipped from?

Orders ship tracked from Western Australia. Orders placed before [cut-off] leave the same business day. Delivery estimates by state are on the shipping page.

What purity is the current MOTS-c batch?

The current MOTS-c batch certificate is [pending]. When it is published, it reports purity by HPLC to three decimal places and confirms identity by mass spectrometry.

Which solvent reconstitutes MOTS-c?

BAC Water (sterile water with 0.9% benzyl alcohol) is the usual laboratory solvent. Dilute acetic acid is an alternative for peptides that dissolve poorly in water. Record the solvent, volume and resulting concentration on the vial label.
