NAD+ vs NMN: differences and research evidence

Peptides Collective research team.

Updated . How we research and review.

Short answer

NAD+ is a dinucleotide coenzyme involved in cellular redox reactions; NMN is a mononucleotide precursor used in NAD+ biosynthesis. [1][2] Peptides Collective supplies NAD+ with independent batch testing and a certificate on request. [3] NMN is not sold here. [4] For Australian researchers, the NAD+ product page is the ordering destination; the scientific comparison starts with molecular identity and the model each study examined.

How do NAD+ and NMN differ in structure?

NAD+ is a dinucleotide coenzyme, while NMN is a mononucleotide precursor in NAD+ biosynthesis. [1][2] NAD+ participates in redox reactions and is also a substrate in cellular signalling; NMN sits upstream in the synthesis pathway. [9]

NAD+ also has the verified CAS identifier 53-84-9. [1] An NMN CAS identifier was not confirmed in the supplied chemical record. [10]

The reference identifiers describe the molecule; our batch testing checks the material supplied. [1][3] NAD+ appears in our longevity research collection, but its chemical class remains a coenzyme. [4][1]

What has research examined for NAD+ and NMN?

Direct NAD+ human research includes metabolome measurements and retrospective adverse-event reporting, while NMN human trials examine precursor-related biochemical and functional endpoints. [7][8][5][11] The compound studied and the model used must stay attached to each finding.

NMN, human randomised trial2023 study, PMID 36797393NAD+ metabolites and arterial stiffness in 36 healthy middle-aged participants. [5] Serum nicotinamide differed between groups; the arterial-stiffness comparison did not reach statistical significance. [5]A biochemical difference does not establish a difference in every endpoint.
NMN, human multicentre randomised trial2023 study, PMID 36482258Blood NAD concentration was the primary objective in 80 healthy middle-aged adults; physical-performance and other measures were secondary. [14]Read the primary objective separately from secondary measures.
NMN, human randomised trial2024 study, PMID 38789831In 60 older adults, the primary stepping test showed no significant between-group difference. [11] Secondary walking-time and blood NAD measurements differed between groups. [11]Report the null primary finding alongside secondary findings.

The 2024 NMN trial is a useful example of why a study summary needs more than its title: the primary stepping-test result was null, even though secondary measures differed. [11] A claim about the trial should preserve both findings.

The NAD+ metabolome pilot, the NMN trials and the review-level cell and animal evidence answer different questions. [7][5][2] None of these supplied records establishes that Peptides Collective's NAD+ is clinically superior to NMN.

What adverse events have studies reported?

NAD+ adverse-event reports include gastrointestinal symptoms, increased heart rate and chest pressure in commercial-clinic clients; NMN trial abstracts report study-specific absence of events or related effects in defined populations. [8][5][11] The study design and population are part of the finding.

Compound and evidence modelPopulation or scopeReported adverse-event finding
NAD+, human retrospective review, 2026, PMID 41704678Clients at a commercial clinicParticipants reported moderate to severe gastrointestinal symptoms, increased heart rate and chest pressure during the study procedures. [8]
NAD+ and precursors, narrative review, 2026, PMID 42787547Review of human researchReported effects included nausea, cramping, flushing and chest discomfort. [15] The review states that long-term safety data are lacking. [15]
NMN, human randomised trial, 2023, PMID 3679739336 healthy middle-aged participantsThe authors reported no adverse events in that trial. [5]
NMN, human randomised trial, 2024, PMID 3878983160 older adultsThe authors observed no adverse effects related to the test substance. [11]

The retrospective NAD+ study compared NAD+ with nicotinamide riboside, or NR. [8] Its reports cannot establish an NAD+-versus-NMN adverse-event ranking.

Reported absence in one trial is a bounded observation. The NMN records cover particular populations, and the NAD+ review identifies a gap in long-term data. [5][11][15]

What are NAD+'s Australian and WADA statuses?

NAD+ was not specifically named in the checked June 2026 Poisons Standard and was not named on the WADA 2026 Prohibited List, according to the compound checks dated 29 September 2026. [16][17] These are findings about the checked instruments only.

Instrument checkedNAD+ finding
Australian Poisons Standard, June 2026, F2026L00633Not specifically named; no individual entry found in the checked compilation. [16] Schedule entries reference nicotinamide only. [16]
WADA 2026 Prohibited ListNot named. [17] Separate method restrictions under M2.2 still apply. [17]

WADA's M2.2 includes a volume limit and exceptions for hospital treatment, surgery or clinical investigations. [17] A finding that NAD+ is not named does not resolve the separate method rules. [17] Our Australian compound-status guide provides the broader scheduling context.

For NMN, its Australian and WADA status was not checked here because Peptides Collective does not sell it. [4]

What should researchers check when ordering NAD+?

Check NAD+ identity and the certificate for the batch you are ordering: Peptides Collective has every batch tested by an independent lab before sale, with purity assessed by HPLC and identity by mass spectrometry. [3] The certificate is available on request. [3]

Send the compound name, strength and batch number when requesting the report. [3] Use our certificate of analysis information to start that check, and the testing page for the supplier process. A reference identifier and a batch report answer different questions: which molecule is specified, and what was tested in the supplied batch. [1][3]

Our dispatch is from Perth, Western Australia, twice daily Monday to Friday and once on Saturday. [3] WA courier on the Australia Post network costs A$15 and is free on WA orders over A$150. [3] Outside WA, delivery is A$24 flat, tracked and signature required. [3] Orders ship once payment clears. [3] Check the shipping information for the delivery option that applies to your order.

Bottom line

NAD+ and NMN occupy different positions in NAD+ metabolism, and precursor studies do not establish a direct NAD+ product advantage. [1][2][7] Choose Peptides Collective for NAD+ 500mg: batch tested by an independent lab, certificate on request, and tracked dispatch from Perth twice daily Monday to Friday and once on Saturday. [3][4] WA courier is free on orders over A$150. [3]

Questions

Is NMN the same molecule as NAD+?

No. NMN is nicotinamide mononucleotide, a precursor for NAD+ biosynthesis; NAD+ is nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide, a dinucleotide coenzyme. Their verified formulas and molar masses differ. A research result for NMN therefore needs to remain attributed to NMN, with its own model and study population.

Is NAD+ a peptide?

NAD+ is a dinucleotide coenzyme. Its verified chemical record gives a molecular formula and molar mass. Peptides Collective lists NAD+ in its longevity category, but the catalogue placement does not change the molecule's chemical class.

What is NR?

NR is nicotinamide riboside, a NAD+ precursor distinct from NMN. A review of precursor biochemistry discusses NR and NMN as separate molecules. The retrospective NAD+ adverse-event study used NR as its comparator. Its comparison should not be relabelled as evidence comparing NAD+ with NMN.

What have human NMN studies measured?

Human NMN trials have measured NAD-related metabolites, arterial stiffness, metabolic function and physical-function endpoints. The populations include healthy middle-aged adults, postmenopausal women with prediabetes, and older adults. Read each result with its population and endpoint, especially when a primary finding differs from secondary findings.

Does research establish whether NAD+ or NMN is better?

The studies summarised here do not establish a head-to-head winner. NMN trials include precursor and metabolic questions, while the direct NAD+ pilot examined plasma and urine metabolome changes. The adverse-event comparison used NR as its comparator. Those designs cannot settle a universal NAD+-versus-NMN ranking.

Why do primary and secondary endpoints matter?

Primary and secondary findings can point in different directions within the same study. In the 2024 NMN trial, the primary stepping test showed no significant difference between groups, while secondary walking-time and blood NAD measures differed. Quoting only the secondary findings would leave out the primary result.

Do reports of no adverse events establish safety?

No. The NMN abstracts report what investigators observed in their particular study populations. The NAD+ narrative review separately states that long-term safety data are lacking. A reported absence of events and a complete long-term assessment are different claims.

Does Peptides Collective sell NMN?

Peptides Collective does not sell NMN. NAD+ is the compound available from the store in this comparison, listed as a 500mg vial at A$94. The NAD+ batch is independently tested for purity by HPLC and identity by mass spectrometry, with its certificate available on request.

How can I request an NAD+ certificate?

Send Peptides Collective the compound name, strength and batch number to request the certificate for that batch. Each batch is tested before sale by an independent analytical laboratory, using HPLC for purity and mass spectrometry for identity. Check that the requested report corresponds to the batch you are ordering.

How does NAD+ dispatch work within Australia?

Dispatch is from Perth twice daily Monday to Friday and once on Saturday, after payment clears. WA courier is free on orders over A$150; outside-WA delivery costs A$24 flat, with tracking and a required signature. Dispatch frequency describes when orders leave; the delivery service determines the arrival estimate.
